On November 25th 2019, Kinder, 1st Grade, Special Education Teachers and Instructional Assistants from Gadsden Elementary School attended a 3-hour workshop focusing on the foundation of writing skills.
Moon is a rare and one of a kind person who cares for students and their families so deeply that she goes beyond to help and support everyone around those children.
She offers free professional development for families, teachers, instructional assistants and anyone else who touches a child’s life. At our site, she has given at no cost 6 trainings in various domains if occupational therapy. To mention a few : Make ~n~ Take Task Boxes, Vision Skills, Sensory Awareness, Keyboarding skills and Fine Motor/Gross Motor Skills . Those job-embedded trainings are full of resources; give always, research, hands on practice, and real life applications to use on Monday. Every activity is viewed with new eyes and ears after we learn from Moon. She and her employees volunteer their time on these Saturdays. In the past, teachers from Mexico, parents, GESD #32 district teachers, Wellton & Somerton teachers, and others have attended.
When she saw a need earlier than preschool, she collaborated with Arizona Early Intervention Program (AZEIP) to work with birth to 3 children. Having the foresight to know these children would have greater outcomes if OT skills were introduced early. The hope was to have stronger preschoolers heading into the Kinder grade levels.
It is her dream through the non-profit to write and secure grant monies for all future projects .During the summer, she has had swimming at the city pool where she coordinates the adaptive swim program for special needs children. She has begun a social skills girls group at 2 of the schools in our district to support those girls in 5-6th grade. The girls learn to sew/quilt, cook/bake, set a table/serve, manners, leadership skills and overall teamwork.
Just at the mention of her name ears perk up to say when and how can we learn and help. I am privileged to work with Moon and learn from her every time we work together.

As a parent I have grown so much and still growing to better assist my children and prepare them for the real world... My goal is for my children to be independent, good citizens and Moon and her team have opened my eyes and provided me with many strategies and opportunities where I can apply what I have learn from the disabilities to our lifestyle and environments... We are still growing and are living the rewards of early intervention with a couple of challenging days here and there... We are a work in progress and look forward to what the future brings. I am forever grateful to come across Moon and her team who have help my entire family understand the disability and work together as a team to improve my family’s unique needs.

Moon started working with our son, Tobias, when he was a few months old. At our very first meeting, she jumped right in and started evaluating Tobias. She knew exactly what he needed to work on to help him achieve each developmental milestones. Every time I have a concern about something he is unable to do, she is great about showing us activities and exercises we can be doing to achieve goals. She not only does a great job when working with him, but also shows us the proper technique to work out his muscles. I really appreciate that because I enjoy doing those strengthening activities with him everyday. Every time I have a question, she responds with an answer I can comprehend. We have thoroughly enjoyed having her work me our son and us.
Moon came into Arian’s life during the Spring of 2015. Arian was approaching his 2nd birthday.
He was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus at 2 months old. His physical needs were extensive in regards to feeding, positioning and overall exercise routines.
Over the course of the past 3-4 years Moon has helped with obtaining and providing Arian with a Tilt-N-Space Wheelchair, Tub Chair, Tomato Chair, hand splints and a vibration mat. It did not stop with Arian.
Moon inspired me to come and work for her as an OT Tech. This has prompted me to consider exploring COTA school in the year 2020.
Through her passion it has allowed doors to open for Arian and myself. Meeting Moon and working side by side with her has been a life changing path .
